BOOMSHOTS & JAMROCK

ALL IN THE SAME BOAT - DOCUMENTARY

ALL PROJECTS

THE CHALLENGE

Boomshots and Jamrock Cruises set out to create a long-form documentary, “ALL IN THE SAME BOAT,” capturing the 10th Anniversary of the Jamrock Cruise Festival and the culture surrounding it. The production required us to follow New York Times bestselling author Rob Kenner and BBC reporter Reshma B. over the course of three years, filming both onboard the cruise and across multiple locations in Miami. The biggest challenge was working within the high-pressure, constantly moving environment of a cruise ship—tight timelines, shifting schedules, and limited access windows with high-profile artists and talent. We needed to move fast, adapt to last-minute changes, and still maintain a cinematic, cohesive visual style and clean audio in crowded, noisy, and unpredictable settings.

THE SOLUTION

As Director of Photography, Roberto Velez led a lean, agile crew with assistant Reinaldo Valdes to design a production approach built for speed and reliability without sacrificing quality. We operated with a two-camera setup to capture both intimate, documentary-style moments and dynamic performance coverage simultaneously, while our portable lighting package allowed us to quickly shape the look in cabins, corridors, stages, and on-deck locations. We also handled on-location audio recording, ensuring interviews and live moments with Rob Kenner, Reshma B., and featured artists were clear and usable despite ambient noise. By planning around artist schedules, pre-scouting key areas of the ship and Miami locations, and keeping our gear streamlined and mobile, we could document three years of the Jamrock Cruise experience with consistency, depth, and a cinematic feel that matched the significance of the 10th Anniversary.
